This week was another week for adventure. Earlier in the week, a group went into Beijing again and did some shopping. I think we are becoming quite adept at using public transportation. Also bartering is getting easier. It's all about staying at your original price. But I did do some work. I taught Monday-Wednesday in the preschool for local children. We sang a song that taught about body parts. Luckily they are not music experts so they did not seem to mind my off key singing. They liked the song though and dancing with their classmates. On Tuesday we did a science experiment. I put milk into a bowl and then several drops of food coloring. Then dish soap was squeezed into the bowl and it moved the food coloring around and mixed it. My explanation is not exciting but it's a cool experiment so you should look it up on youtube.
But the most exciting part of the week was going to the Great Wall. We left Thursday morning and took several hours to get there. Our guide was from Belgium. We went on a part of the wall that was not renovated and so is not as touristy as some other parts. There were no other people around other than my group. It was quite a workout because it was a lot of hiking. I did fall several times but not close to a side of the Wall so I survived. An outdoorsy person I am not. After hiking for four hours we reached our camping spot. It was not on the Great Wall but we had a view from our tents. Yes, tents! I think it was my first real camping experience. Let's just say I still prefer hotels and indoor plumbing. On Friday we went hiking down the Wall. They even gave us breakfast. Pictures to come later.
